Naramata Bench Winery Wedding Sanitation: A Planning Guide

The Naramata Bench is one of the most sought-after wedding destinations in BC. Dozens of boutique wineries along the eastern shore of Okanagan Lake host ceremonies and receptions between May and October. The views are incredible, the wine is better, and the photos take themselves. But most vineyard venues weren’t built as primary wedding venues — which means sanitation is usually something the wedding planner has to figure out on their own.

This guide walks through exactly what works for a Naramata Bench winery wedding, based on our decades of supplying portable toilets to vineyards across the Bench.

The Naramata Bench Venue Reality

Most Naramata Bench wineries have a tasting room with 1–2 indoor washrooms, sized for tasting-room traffic — roughly 10–30 people at once. A wedding typically brings 80–200 guests who all need access to the washroom at specific moments: before the ceremony, during cocktail hour, right after the meal. Tasting-room washrooms cannot handle that.

Some larger venues (Lake Breeze, Poplar Grove, La Frenz, Red Rooster, Therapy) have event-scale facilities, but most do not. Even at venues that can handle it, many couples add supplemental portable facilities to reduce lines and protect the tasting-room washrooms from wedding-scale traffic.

How Many Units and What Type

The baseline for a wedding is one flushing toilet stall per 50 guests for a 4–6 hour event, plus at least one ADA-accessible unit. For most Naramata Bench weddings, that translates to:

50–80 guests (intimate wedding):

  • 2 deluxe flushing units
  • 1 ADA-accessible unit
  • Total: 3 units

80–120 guests (standard wedding):

  • 3 deluxe flushing units
  • 1 ADA-accessible unit
  • Total: 4 units (or upgrade to a luxury washroom trailer — see below)

120–200 guests (larger wedding):

  • Multi-stall luxury washroom trailer (typically 3–5 stalls)
  • 1 ADA-accessible unit
  • Total: 1 trailer + 1 ADA unit

200+ guests:

  • Two multi-stall luxury washroom trailers
  • 1–2 ADA-accessible units
  • Occasionally supplemental deluxe units near the ceremony site if it’s separated from the reception area

Why a Luxury Washroom Trailer Is Usually the Answer for Bench Weddings

For weddings of 120+ guests at a Naramata Bench vineyard, a multi-stall luxury washroom trailer is almost always the right call. Here’s why:

The guest experience matches the venue. Trailers have running water, flushing toilets, vanity mirrors, climate control, interior lighting, and premium finishes. Guests dressed for an upscale wedding appreciate a washroom experience that matches.

Multiple stalls reduce lines. A 3–5 stall trailer handles peak traffic (cocktail hour, post-dinner) far better than three separate deluxe units, because stalls share a single entrance and exit flow.

One delivery footprint. A single trailer takes about the space of a pickup truck — easier to position discreetly than four individual units.

Climate control matters. Bench weddings in August can hit 35°C. Interior climate control makes a real difference for guest comfort.

Photo-friendly. The trailer’s exterior is neutral and unobtrusive, and the interior photographs well when guests ask for selfies (yes, they do).

Placement at Naramata Bench Venues

Placement is vineyard-specific but a few principles always apply.

Close enough to be convenient, hidden enough to be invisible. Most Bench venues have obvious staging areas behind the tasting room or production building. These are usually the right placement — near guest circulation but not in view from the ceremony site or reception tent.

Power access for trailers. Luxury washroom trailers need a 30-amp power connection. Most Bench wineries have accessible power at the production building; we confirm access during the site walk.

Level surface. Trailers need level placement, which at a hillside Bench vineyard might mean positioning creatively. A few wineries have permanent pads; most require us to level on arrival.

Service-truck access. We need to be able to reach the trailer with our service truck for pre-event cleaning. This is almost never a problem at established Bench venues but we confirm it during the site walk.

Timing and Booking

Book at least 8 weeks ahead for a standard Bench wedding. Luxury trailers book out first — if you want one for your date, don’t wait.

Book 12–16 weeks ahead for peak-summer dates (last weekend in July through first weekend in September). The entire Okanagan wedding industry runs at capacity in those 6 weeks.

Delivery and setup timing. For Saturday weddings, we typically deliver Friday morning (pre-event cleaning in the afternoon) and pick up Sunday morning or Monday morning depending on the rehearsal-dinner setup.

Wineries We Regularly Deliver To

We’ve supplied portable toilets and luxury washroom trailers for weddings and events at Lake Breeze, Poplar Grove, La Frenz, Red Rooster, Elephant Island, Therapy Vineyards, JoieFarm, Moraine, Lang Vineyards, Ruby Blues, Hillside, Nichol, D’Angelo, Deep Roots, Kettle Valley Winery, Township 7, and others across the Naramata Bench. Most Bench wineries know us and many reference us to their couples directly.

Permits and Responsibility

Winery wedding permits vary by venue. The vineyard owner typically handles municipal permitting; sanitation is usually the couple’s responsibility (or the planner’s). In our experience, most Bench weddings don’t require a separate permit for portable sanitation when it’s placed on the winery’s private property as part of a licensed event — but the venue will confirm during the booking.

Weddings along the Kettle Valley Rail Trail, on public beach areas, or at other non-winery venues may require a permit from the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen. We can help navigate this if needed.

The Bottom Line

A Naramata Bench wedding is one of the most beautiful things you can do in BC. A sanitation plan that matches the venue — discreet placement, guest-experience quality, reliable pre-event servicing — is part of what makes those weddings feel effortless. It’s the one vendor your guests will silently thank you for having.
